A Tullahoma man was killed and an Estill Springs man seriously injured in a one-car crash around midnight Thursday on Lyndell Bell Road in Coffee County, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Dead at the scene was Michael Barnes, 23, and injured was Joshua J. Myers, also 23, occupants of a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta that was traveling west at an extremely high rate of speed on Lyndell Bell Road near Riley Creek Road, said State Trooper Randy Euler. The vehicle then hit an embankment and rolled end over end, ejecting both men, he said.

The trooper reported that it was unclear who was driving since both occupants were ejected from the vehicle. Neither was wearing a seatbelt, he said.

Blood alcohol tests were taken for analysis.

Myers was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with multiple injuries and was listed in critical but stable condition Monday morning.

No citations or criminal charges were issued as of the time of the report, but investigation is continuing into the crash, according to the THP.

Michael Barnes was an employee of Sonic restaurant in Tullahoma.
