Acting on information obtained during the investigation into a missing Tullahoma man, investigators from the Tullahoma Police Department located a male body in a wooded area in Estill Springs at about 8:30 a.m. on Thursday. After locating the body, Lt. Jason Ferrell and Investigator Tyler Hatfield notified Franklin County Sheriff’s Department Investigator Todd Hindman of the discovery.
Investigators said the body was sent to the Tennessee Medical Examiner’s Office in Nashville for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Although investigators declined to definitively identify the body, pending the autopsy results, it is believed to be David Edward Steele, 33, who was reported missing and had not been seen since Oct. 3.
According to Franklin County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Chris Guess, the body was found about 75 yards off the road in a wooded area near the intersection of UTSI Road and Spring Creek Road. Investigators from both departments were securing the scene and gathering evidence this morning. They were waiting on the TBI Crime Lab to arrive at the scene and begin the task of collecting and processing evidence.
This is breaking story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
