Raiders advance to second day of district tournament

Five Coffee County Central High School tennis players made it through the first day of play in the district individual tournament in Cookeville Wednesday to advance to semi-final rounds on Thursday.

The match of the day belonged to Hollie Moore.

Moore played the number-two overall seed Susie Brown of Warren County. Brown had defeated Moore twice during the regular season. Moore went down one set, 4-6 before coming back and taking the remaining two sets, 6-3 and 7-5. Moore advances to the semi-finals to face Lacee Hitchcock of White County on Thursday, May 2.

Doubles team Matt Johnson and Kyle Johnson beat Blake Basham and Kirkland Sauer of Warren County, 6-4 and 6-2, and advance to Thursday’s semi-finals. The Johnson brothers will play the number-one seeds, Nick Gernt and John Gleason of Cookeville, at their home courts Thursday.

Brock Ivey-Bodman and Lake Elam defeated Cody Back and Tyler Boniol of Cumberland County, 6-0 and 6-0. They also advance to Thursday’s semi-finals. Ivey-Bodman and Elam will play Jake Ward and Tanner Cagle of Cookeville.

Keyonna Wilder and Karlee Reed won their match against Madison McLaughlin and Morgan Houston of Cumberland County, 6-2 and 6-0. Wilder and Reed lost in yesterday’s quarterfinals, however, to Sarah Ward and Shea Harris of White County.

In singles Olivia Watkins lost 0-6 and 0-6 to Nithay Kanagasegar of Cumberland County, Lucas Crismond lost 1-6 and 1-6 to J. Hunt of Warren County, and Jaylon Patton lost to Sebastian Braswell of Cookeville, 0-6 and 0-6.
