Red Raider Scramble to benefit CHS basketball

milton stanley bylinePlans are underway to recruit sponsors for a planned golf tournament this fall to raise money for the Coffee County Central High School boys basketball program.

First-year CHS head basketball coach J.D. Douglas is in the process of looking for sponsors, including a title sponsor, for the tournament to be held Saturday, Oct. 19, at WillowBrook Golf Course.

“We’re calling it the Red Raider Scramble till we get a title sponsor,” Douglas said. In addition to a title sponsor, Douglas and assistant coach Ben Holl are looking for three junior sponsors and 18 separate hole sponsors.

The scramble will consist of four-man teams with a cost of $200 per team. Douglas said anyone over age 16 is encouraged to play in the fall fundraiser.

“We want people to have fun when they go,” Douglas said. “We want them to talk about it when they leave. We want them to come back and bring people with them next year.”

Douglas said he hopes the scramble will generate enough funds for the team that a string of fundraisers won’t be necessary next season. “I think we’ve got a good group of parents that I’ve met so far. I’m a big advocate of not work-ing parents to death.”

Anyone interested in being a scramble sponsor is encouraged to call Holl at 616-830-0286.
