After a hard-fought 3-2 victory at home over White County in a District 6-AAA semifinal match Tuesday, the Coffee County Central High School soccer team is preparing for the district championship game at Cookeville on Thursday.

The contest Tuesday at Carden-Jarrell Field was far different from the two teams’ meeting April 9, when the Red Raiders trounced the Warriors 6-1. This time Coffee County took a 1-0 lead midway through the first half, and the teams proceeded to alternate goals till the score was tied 2-2 at the half. Bagging goals for Coffee County in the first period were Marcello Aguilar, assisted by Abelen Barrera, and Baltazar Barrera, assisted by Cody Howes.

In the second period the Red Raiders closed the book with improved defense and a header goal by Ricky Ramirez on an assist by Dallon Lush with a little over five minutes to go in the game.

The Raiders will play Cookeville on the road Thursday for the District 6-AAA championship.
