With a victory over Cumberland County Monday, the Coffee County Central High School tennis team finished second in District 6-AAA.
Winning doubles matches for the boys were Matt Johnson and Kyle Johnson, and Lucas Crismond and
Zach Taylor. Singles winners were Matt Johnson, Kyle Johnson, Jaylon Patton, and Crismond.
Doubles winners for the Lady Raiders were Keyonna Wilder and Karlee Reed, and Kristen Shelton and Audra Schaffer. Winning in singles were Olivia Watkins, Wilder, Reed, Abby Ferrell and Schaffer.
The Raiders now prepare for post-season district competition. The individual district tennis tournament will be held in Cookeville on May 1 and 2.
In girls singles Hollie Moore received a first-round bye and will face Susie Brown of Warren County at 2:15. Watkins also received a first-round by and will face the number-one seed in the tournament, Cumberland County’s Nithya Kanagasegar, at 1:00.
In boys singles Crismond received a first-round bye and will meet the winner of Cagle vs. Hunt at 3:30. Patton will play his first-round match against Braswell of Cookeville at 12:00.
In girls doubles Wilder and Reed will play McLaughlin and Houston of Cumberland County in the first round at 1:00. Ferrell and Schaffer received a first-round bye and will play at 3:30 against the winner of the Cookeville-White County matchup.
In boys doubles Brock Ivey-Bodman and Lake Elam
received the second seed overall in the doubles tournament and a first-round bye. They will play Back and Boniol of Cumberland County at 1:00. Johnson and Johnson also received a first-round bye and will play the winner of the Warren and Cumberland matchup at 3:30.
The semi-finals of the team tournament will be held Friday, May 3rd. Coffee County boys and girls will host Warren County.
Matt Johnson and Kyle Johnson were selected second-team all-district in singles, and Austin Ledford and Zach Taylor were chosen second-team all-district in doubles.
