THIS WEEK IN HISTORY: Coffee County Bank robbed; suspect nabbed in Shelbyville

Escaped convict Dwight Alexander Mayton, 50, formerly of Manchester, has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery that took place Wednesday, Nov. 15 at the Coffee County Bank, 301 Murfreesboro, Hwy., Manchester.

According to a Manchester Police Department preliminary investigation report, police responded to an alarm at the bank at 3:57 p.m.. A teller said a man came to her window, raised his shirt and revealed a small blue semi-automatic pistol. He then asked the teller if he could see the money and told her to give him all of it, according to the report.

The robber took an undisclosed amount of money in denominations of $50, $20, $10 and $5 bills, one pack fo them marked, and fled the scene in a white Ford Escort station wagon.

Earlier that day, Mayton allegedly kidnapped David Peters, a 19-year old ….
