Earlier this year when First Baptist Church Worship Pastor Bart Starr answered the call to move to Texas for another music ministry opportunity, he left big shoes to fill for whomever would be called to replace him; for Bart had served and ministered to his church and the community very well. He and his wife, Roni, and children, Leeanne and Jake, have been greatly missed but the FBC congregation wish only the best for the Starrs and their future endeavors.

After months of diligent prayer and research, the FBC Worship Pastor Search Committee recommended Todd Green for the position and the congregation agreed. In an interview with the Manchester Times, Todd introduces himself to the community.

Q: Please share about yourself.

A: When I was a child, my family moved around a lot. My father was a carpenter and it always seemed that there was more work in the next city or state over. As a result, I lived in seven states by the time I graduated high school. After high school, I joined the U.S. Air Force where I was stationed at Minot AFB, N. D. for three years. (Talk about a cold place). While I was in Minot, I started attending North Hill Baptist Church. One Sunday, I stood up to sing a solo for the service and shared with the congregation that I was feeling called to use music to serve God in some form. About a week later, the church asked me to be their Music Minister because their other one was leaving for a new assignment. I must admit that I was a little taken aback because I had thought that God was going to open up ministry at some later date. At any rate, I accepted the position. I served with them for a year and then felt that God was calling me to get more education. So I swapped my last year of active duty for two years of duty in the Air Force Reserves so that I could go to college. When all was said and done, I got a Bachelor’s degree in Music Business and Vocal Performance from Anderson College in South Carolina and a Master’s Degree in Church Music and Vocal Performance from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. After seminary, I served a short time at Inman First Baptist Church in Inman, S. C. but I found that I was a much better fit at Harpeth Heights Baptist in Nashville where I served for 15 years and eight months. When First Baptist Manchester called me, God made it very clear to me, that this was a move He had planned for me and my family.

Q: What is your vision for the music ministry at FBC?

A: I think First Baptist can be a powerful tool in the hand of God to make a difference in Manchester for the Kingdom of God. I want to help us to be the best we can be, not only in the area of music and worship, but also as people of God who are completely sold out to Him in Spirit and in truth.

Q: If someone was to visit FBC, what could they expect to find in the music ministry in each service?

A: Our first service is a contemporary style of worship. The music will be modern in style and band driven. There will be lights and rocking music that is generally appealing to a younger crowd. The dress code is casual and the atmosphere is friendly. Do you want to wear shorts and flip flops to church? This is the service for you.

Our second service is a blended style of worship. This is where we blend the best of the old and the new. In addition to the band, we also feature the choir and organ. We sing modern songs and traditional hymns in a variety of styles.

Q: Please share about your family.

A: My wife, Susan, is a piano teacher with two degrees in piano performance and teaching. She has taught for the school of music at Anderson College, S.C. and for Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University. She also plays piano at First Baptist. In addition to all of that, she is a vital part of my ministry. Most of all, she is the best wife a guy could ask for. My daughter, Mary, is a ninth grader attending the Raider Academy. (Go Red Raiders). Her hobbies include being a social butterfly and spending too many hours looking at her cell phone. LOL. Seriously, she is a treasure her mother and me.

Todd also sings with a Nashville based trio, called Trademark. See more information about the group by visiting or at Read Todd’s devotional blog at
