An air conditioning technician for Veterans Heating, A/C, and Electrical was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center following a single car crash Tuesday on Interstate Drive in Manchester.
According to Manchester Police Department Major Bill Sipe at the scene, the vehicle’s sole occupant, Steven R. Bell, of Shelbyville, veered off the roadway, went down an embankment and crashed into a tree line near the wooded area on Interstate Drive near the Trussler Medical Plaza.
vehicle. Due to the steep terrain and that the truck was entangled in a fencerow, emergency responders had a difficult time extricating the driver. Workers had to partially pull the vehicle from where it had stopped midway down the small ravine in order to remove Bell.
Sipe said that the cause of Bell’s leaving the roadway was not known at the time.
Bell appeared to be conscious as medical personnel prepared him for transport, but his coworkers on the scene indicated that he was dazed and did not remember the crash.
Bell had been working in the area just before the crash.
