Vintage Campers to Celebrate Opening of Blue Moon Campground
Pelham, TN, April 16, 2013 – On April 26, more than a dozen vintage campers will arrive in Pelham to celebrate the opening of Harry and Ollie’s Blue Moon Campground. Scheduled to coincide with the Cornbread Festival in South Pittsburgh, the caravan of campers belong to members of Sisters on the Fly (SOTF)—a women’s travel and adventure group.
SOTF members practice what is called “glamping” (glamor camping). Each camper has a unique name (think of boats having names), and each camper is decorated in a specific theme. Previous events included campers that were decorated as Gypsy wagons or stagecoaches, and most have unique and custom exterior paint schemes and interior decor.
The public is invited to tour these unique campers on Saturday, April 27, from 4 to 7 pm, chat with the “sisters,” and participate in the activities scheduled for that afternoon. Admission for the trailer tour and afternoon activities will be a donation to “Casting for Recovery,” an independent charity that supports women recovering from breast cancer.
In addition to the tour (youngsters will enjoy what look like play houses on wheels), afternoon activities will include karaoke, and several demonstrations including (weather permitting) barrel horse racing and Dutch oven cooking. Food and drink will be available for purchase. We may have several antique autos and campers on hand, too.
SOTF activities run the gamut from fly fishing, kayaking, cowgirl college, and horseback riding to whatever else sounds like fun. Their goal is to bring women together to challenge themselves, to be all they are capable of being. The motto of the more than 3,000 members is “We have more fun than anyone.” Sisters on the Fly is headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona. For more information, contact a member or go to
Harry and Ollie’s is a market and gift shop, café, photo studio—and now campground–located just north of “the light” in Pelham on Highway 41. The café features full and takeout breakfasts and lunches from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm, Tuesday through Saturday. We also operate a full service photography studio, including portraits, events, products and animals, and aerial photography.
