The Lady Raider softball team had to come from behind to beat Dickson County earlier in the season. But Saturday afternoon at CHS a second comeback against the same team would fall short, 4-2, in an 11-inning marathon game.

Dickson County plated a run in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead that would stand until the bottom of the seventh.

Neither team was able to score again until the top of the 11th when the visiting team took a 4-1 lead on two Coffee County errors. The Lady Raiders were able to plate a run in the home-half of the inning but, for the third time in the game, left the bases loaded.

Brianna Jones struck out 21 batters in the circle and allowed no earned runs and just five hits in the loss.

CHS baseball

The Raider baseball team fought from behind for an 8-7 win in 10 innings Friday night against Murfreesboro Central-Magnet.

Peyton Meeker hit a grand slam in the fifth inning and Tyler Cavender doubled to tie the game in the sixth.

The Raiders won the game in the 10th inning when Cavender singled home Trace Freidlien and Meeker singled to plate Kyle Douglas.

Douglas pitched the bottom of the 10th in relief to earn the win.

Saturday the Raiders were tied with Wilson Central 1-1 through four innings before falling 9-2.

Westwood baseball

The Westwood baseball team was tied 3-3 with Huntland heading into the bottom of the seventh inning Saturday in the Duck River Valley Conference play-in game before pushing a run across for a 4-3 win to advance.

Austin Harmon plated the winning run after hitting a single, moving to second on a Deontae Williams single and scoring on a hit by Dakota Finchum.

“The bottom of the batting order came through when I needed them in the seventh,” said WMS head coach Tyrell Campbell. “It was do or die and they stepped up.”

Jeremiah Franklin started the game for Westwood and pitched five innings before giving way to Carlos Medina, who earned the win in relief.

CHS soccer

The Raiders tied Thompson Ala. 1-1 Friday night. After trailing 1-0 at the half. Pedro Hernandez scored in the second for the tie.

“They were a solid team, I was happy with how we competed against them,” said head coach Robert Harper.
