Raider Academy needs Science and Tech mentors

Coffee County Raider Academy’s first ever Science, Technology, Engineering Arts and Mathematics fair needs judges and mentors for an event to be held May 8. The school’s release said that the number one factor its students describe in preventing them from choosing a STEAM career (via a recent survey) was not having a mentor or role model in a STEAM career. Coupled with data showing that parents are providing less and less guidance in career choice these factors are hurting the available qualified workforce in our county and state. To that end, the school hopes to provide each student with the contact information for a professional in the area of their project.  These individuals would provide email and phone numbers for students to contact them at concerning design and implementation questions. Students are required to use the Engineering Design Process Method to come up with an idea, implement or make a prototype, test, record data, retest and tweak, and then report in on a trifold board including all information with descriptions and photos or a working prototype. These projects will be judged on May 8 from 2:45 – 4 p.m. Fields  include: psychology, dietician, mechanical engineer, artist, electrical engineer, biologist, environmental scientist, automotive engineer, aerospace engineer, dietician, sports medicine, textile engineer, blacksmith, research and  design engineer, tool and die maker, cosmetic chemist, plastics engineer, IT engineer, computer app. developer, computer programming/software engineer, civil engineer, mathematician, shoe design, water company cost analyst, electric company cost analyst , electronics engineer, process engineer, physicist, guitar maker, game warden, forester and chemist.
