New Union teacher Nikki Alonso has placed second in the Ponce Law Outstanding Teacher contest.
Along with the recognition, she will receive $500 from Ponce Law.
Since schools have closed fir COVID-19, Alanson, a first grade teacher, has been teaching lessons on Class Dojo. YouTube and her class Facebook page.
Alonso has also prepared packets for her students to complete at home along with multiple online resources. Every week night she reads a bedtime story in full costume to go with the story.
Earlier this year, Alonso organized a fundraiser to buy security door jams for every room in the school to increase safety of the students.
The Ponce Law program celebrates Teacher Appreciation Month 2020,
Voting ran through April 30. Prizes included $500 each for first – fifth place winners and $100 for sixth – 10th place winners.
