Aspen Dental in Tullahoma will offer free dental care to veterans on Saturday, June 8.

The local clinic will offer free extractions and fillings.

Aspen Dental of Tullahoma (1513 N. Jackson St.) will be one of more than 450 offices across 39 states participating in the Day of Service event.

Shelby Hayes, office manager of the local clinic, is looking forward to the event. Supporting those who wore uniforms to protect the county will bring Hayes satisfaction.

“We are going to be doing free single extractions and single fillings for veterans,” Hayes said. “Selected offices do it every year.

“I’ve been with the company for three years, and this is one of the things I look forward to. It’s such a rewarding thing to be able to help people – especially veterans who have helped the country – and get them out of pain.”

Trey Lunsford, dentist at the local clinic, said helping the nation’s veterans is very rewarding.

“It’s important to give back to the people that protect us and give us the freedom we have here,” Lunsford said. “It’s important to extend a little grace and gratitude their direction."

“Makes me feel wonderful”

Retired Army Sgt. Major Larry Williams expressed appreciation to Aspen Dental.

The free dental care is much-needed.

Many veterans, Williams said, particularly low-income or retired veterans that live on a fixed income “go without dental care simply because they are unable to afford the care.”

Williams added this is “sad, since they at one time served their country in a military uniform.”

“It makes me feel wonderful when a business, store or a restaurant recognizes the military community because, for far too many years, veterans, in particular Korea and Vietnam veterans, were often made to feel ashamed for their dedicated and honorable military service to our country,” Williams said.

Williams thanked all businesses for recognizing those who served the country by offering discounts and free services.
