Adoration Hospice has been assisting and visiting the elderly for years. The organization makes it a point to bring happiness to the elderly, and with the pandemic ongoing the elderly cannot leave the safety of their homes or nursing facilities. To help alleviate this Adoration Hospice has visited a few of the nursing facilities around Manchester. On May 14, the organization visited Macarthur Manor to paint the outside of the residents’ windows with temporary paintings.
“I want to spread some happiness,” volunteer Noah Murphy said. “The elderly haven’t been able to interact with anyone outside of their homes for a while now and we as people still need that interaction. They look forward to people coming to visit them even in the strange situation we have now.”
“Me and my family wanted to spread joy,” Ben Sowders said. “So often in the time that we live in its hard to have community, and we’re bringing it to them. We have an obligation to share that community with them so that they can live their lives to the fullest.”
Helping others brings satisfaction.
“I thought that it would be an uplifting project to help out the elderly because they can’t have any visitors right now,” volunteer Arick Murphy said. “This project lets us be helpful and keeps everybody happy. Hopefully this will get the residents’ minds off of all the bad stuff that’s going on right now.”
“We do this to help the patients and lift their spirits,” said Rick Jernigan, who also volunteers with Adoration Hospice. “We are all going to end up here sooner or later, and I would want someone to show me the same kindness.”
The branch director for the organization is Faye Jernigan, who was a nurse for 30 years.
“We’re here to make people happy,” Jernigan said. “It’s an honor and a privilege to do so in our neighborhood. We have a few other things planned to help the elderly coming up, such as something on Memorial Day and July 4 for the veterans.”
