Did you know that there is irrefutable proof that Jesus did indeed rise from the dead? First of all, the death of Jesus is undisputable. Both the Bible and historical texts record a flogging, beating, and crucifixion that no person could possibly survive. Even the enemies of Christ—those for whom it would have been advantageous to make up a “He never actually died” conspiracy theory—confirmed that he was indeed dead. Medical evidence reports that water and blood did spill from Jesus’ side. This means that he was pierced through the pericardial sack surrounding the heart. No person can be stabbed through the heart and live. Secondly, the burial of Jesus is rock-solid. There is no doubt that he was placed in a Roman tomb that would have been more inescapable than Alcatraz. History records that the massive tombstones that the Romans used to seal their tombs required about five men to move them into place. Those stones were sunken into a trench in front of each tomb’s entrance. For a stone to be removed, then, it would require the strength of about twenty men. This obliterates the theories that Jesus could have awaken from some sort of coma and slipped out of his tomb quietly or that someone could have come without notice and stolen the body of Jesus during the night while the guards were sleeping. Even if those theories were possible, the guards would have never allowed them because they would have never been sleeping. A penalty of death was received by any Roman guard found to be asleep on the job. Lastly, there is full evidence for the literal resurrection of Christ. History records over 500 people who saw and/or heard from Jesus after his rising from the dead. Over a forty-day period, it is confirmed that he appeared in-person in multiple locations twelve different times. Some of the best legal minds of our day have studied the evidence surrounding the question of the legitimacy of Jesus’ resurrection and have concluded without a doubt that the case is air-tight. It absolutely happened. Because of how real the resurrection was, the entire world from that time until now has been broken into two distinct time periods: B.C. (before Christ) and A.D. (after Christ’s death). Because of how real the resurrection was, Emperor Constantine led in the transformation of the Roman Empire, which led the transformation of the world. Because of how real the resurrection was, eleven of Jesus’ disciples gave their lives in a martyr’s death for their faith. If it was all a lie—all just some made up tale propagated by fame-seeking men—then you’d think that at least one of them, when facing the firing squad, would have said, “No, wait a minute, wait a minute! I made it all up. Please don’t kill me!” But none of them did that. I have recently learned of all of this resurrection proof, and I was eager to share it with you because “if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.” (1 Corinthians 15:13-19) In other words, if the resurrection did not actually happen, then the basis for the Christian faith is completely gone. If there was no resurrection, then there is no reason to worship Christ. If there was no resurrection, then there is no reason to adhere to the principles of Christianity above any other religion in the world. If there was no resurrection, then there is no reason to believe the teachings of the Bible to be superior to any other truth-claims. But, since we have established that Jesus Christ did without-a-doubt rise from the grave after being dead for three days, we can be certain that Jesus is divine and that He owns the market on truth. Whatever he said is true. His teachings and the teachings of the Bible are not just opinions held by some. They are, rather, the absolute truth. They are not open to alteration based upon personal experience or culture. They can, and should, be shared and spread with love and without apology. This is why I communicate each week about the issues of our culture in such black-and-white, right-and-wrong language. I cannot possibly shy-away from addressing every issue in light of His status as the resurrected Lord of all. ain that Jesus is divine and that He owns the market on truth. Whatever he said is true.
