At this point, D.A. Craig Northcott has made his prejudiced voice very clear. Northcott was elected to do a job. His job is to apply our laws equally, according to the constitution. Northcott has openly stated that he refuses to apply the law equally to our LBGTQ+ residents with regard to domestic violence. He disagrees with the Supreme Court decision to allow gay marriages.

When asked what he does regarding domestic assaults, Northcott says "The reason there's extra punishment on domestic assaults is to recognize and protect the sanctity of marriage. And I said there's no marriage to protect, so I don't prosecute them as domestics". Gay marriages are legal and he has no right to treat any case with his own prejudice and bias.

Domestic violence is defined as violence or other abuse by one person against another in a domestic setting. There are domestic violence calls daily in our county. Any are too many, however, all should be handled with the same urgency and seriousness, with the law being upheld, no matter who you are and no matter what your sexual orientation may be.

As concerned citizens of Coffee County, we are demanding an investigation into his cases for any violations of the law. Coffee County Democratic Executive Committee
