In response to Richard Cox, “Where are the Democrats” (May 22): You say they have abandoned working, tax paying Americans. Let’s look at some facts here. Obama enacted the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, which was meant to stimulate the economy. It did exactly that. As a matter of fact, it did better than projected. This is not guesswork or an opinion. It’s a fact.

At the end of 2017 President Trump passed his Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. One thing it did was lower corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 21 percent. Attempting the “trickle down” theory, which didn’t work. But it make their pockets much fatter. Another thing it did was to give the wealthiest 1 percent a tax break that equaled to about $33,000, while the poorest got a break of about $40. Facts.

Democrat Representative Clemmons introduced HB1690 (TN Hunger-Free Students Act). Four Republican representatives (Iris Rudder, John Ragan, Terri Weaver and Mark White), shot that bill down. Facts.

As you said, the list goes on and on. Your letter was full of opinion and when Republicans worry themselves over people of the same sex having the right to marry, you can’t call that common sense…not with a straight face.
