How long have you served as executive director for the Manchester Chamber of Commerce?
I’ve had the honor of leading the Manchester Chamber for a little over a year.
What are your responsibilities?
The Manchester Chamber is an organization that specializes in connections. We connect our members with programming and networking opportunities to build and grow their businesses. We also connect current residents, newcomers and tourists with community information that allows them to take advantage of Manchester’s many assets. It’s my job to make sure we’re doing all of these things well, and promoting Manchester as the wonderful place it is.
What are your favorite parts of the job?
This one is difficult, because I’ve never had a job that I’ve loved so much. My husband and I chose to relocate to Manchester because we wanted to raise our family here, so it’s easy for me to talk about all the great things our community has to offer. I’m grateful for the warm welcome I received when I began serving in this role and thoroughly enjoy being able to work alongside community and business leaders who share a vision of a successful Manchester.
What are some of the challenges?
One of the challenges is to strive to be an engaging and relevant organization with limited resources. I previously worked at the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce and took for granted the amount of staff and resources available. At the Manchester Chamber, we have to do a lot more with less. But the good thing about a smaller organization is that we can have more meaningful relationships with our members and when we succeed, it’s even more rewarding.
How can the community become more involved with the Manchester Chamber of Commerce?
We aim to serve as a community resource and have lots of materials to connect current and incoming residents with information, business recommendations and fun things to do throughout the year. I think the Chamber offers valuable membership benefits at an affordable price and we welcome business and industry professionals to attend our events and check us out to see if we can help by serving as an extension of their organization’s marketing arm. We have exciting things planned for 2020, so there’s no better time to join us.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
My spare time is all about my family. Our daughter Karsyn is in fourth grade and our son, Clay, started kindergarten this year. We take full advantage of activities at the rec center and enjoy being a part of our church community. We love nothing more than to gather with our family and friends, and are grateful be surrounded by such a caring support system.
Manchester is a small town with a big soul, and I feel exceptionally lucky to live in this community.
