Coffee County Schools is providing meals to those who need it throughout the month of June and into July.
Get your Selfie Fed runs from June 3 to July 19, every Monday through Friday with the exception of Thursday, July 4. Anyone under the age of 18 will receive a meal for free. Adults pay $1.50 for breakfast and $3.25 for lunch.
“We don’t’ ask where you’re from – you can be from anywhere and come and eat. You don’t have to be from Coffee County, it doesn’t matter,” said Manchester Rotary President Carlan Cotten.
All meals are served at Raider Academy, 865 McMinnville Hwy. Breakfast is served from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and lunch runs from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
“We fed over 19,000 meals last year,” Cotten said. “We’re definitely going to increase that this year.”
The summer feeding program is federally funded and allows organizers to serve the same food the schools do during the school year.
Coffee County Family Resource Center Coordinator and rotary President-Elect Taylor Rayfield explained he looked into making the feeding program mobile, but learned they are serving more people by keeping it in one location than if they transported the meals to different areas in the community. This is, in part, due to the program lining up with summer camps, ESP and daycare, but a large majority of those who get fed do walk in.
They do offer transportation to Raider Academy for those who need it.
“That’s allowing the opportunity to meet some of those where they are and make sure students are being fed,” Rayfield said.
Cotten added there goal is to make sure students are being fed over the summer or, at the very least, have the opportunity to get a meal when they need it.
This year, thanks to a grant Cotten applied for, they are able to send children home with a backpack of food as well. Coffee County was one of nine counties to receive the grant from Second Harvest Food bank of Middle Tennessee.
“We’re excited about providing this opportunity,” Rayfield said.

This is the third year for the district to host a summer feeding program.
