Inmate at Coffee County Jail dies

UPDATE SEPT. 27: The Coffee County Sheriff’s Department has released the name of the inmate who died Sept. 26. Gunnar Roepke, 27, of Tullahoma, was unresponsive and transported to Unity Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The sheriff's department expressed condolences. 


An inmate at Coffee County Jail has died.

On Sept. 26, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Coffee County Jail staff was made aware of an inmate in medical destress, officials said.

"The inmate, a 27-year-old white male, was found to be unresponsive and CPR was performed by correctional and medical staff on hand," sheriff's department officials said in a press release. 

"The inmate was transported to Unity Medical Center were further medical treatment was provided. The inmate was pronounced dead and the family notified. The District Attorney was notified, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation will be investigating to determine the cause of death."
