Mackenzie Taylor, 20, is one of the recipients of Nashville Advertising Co-op of Sonic Drive-Ins scholarships.

The group awarded 45 scholarships to employees of their drive-ins. Each recipient received $1,000.

A graduate of Coffee County High School, Taylor is on her way to earning a college degree.

“I have worked at Sonic Drive-In in Manchester for four and a half years,” Taylor said.

Taylor learned about this scholarship opportunity last year. She applied for it earlier this year and received the award in June.

Employees who have worked at a Sonic Drive-In for more than a year and who have applied for college are eligible for the award, she added.

“I recently graduated from Motlow State Community College, and I will use this scholarship to go to Tennessee Technological University,” she said. “I start in the fall. I will study elementary education.”

Taylor expressed appreciation.

“It feels amazing,” she said. “it’s going to help out a lot.”

Her sister, also a Sonic Drive-In employee, received $1,000 scholarship, as well.

“The other recipient is Kelsey, she is my identical twin sister,” Taylor said. “She has worked at Sonic for three and a half years.”

Kelsey Taylor will be studying radiologic technology at Volunteer State Community College.

In order to qualify for receiving the scholarships, employees must have worked in the drive-in for at least a year, acquire written recommendation from their store managers, teachers and other community leaders, and have completed high school and be accepted in good standing with a college or university.
