Manchester City Schools will begin looking for a new director of schools on Monday, Jan. 14 if the agenda item passes during Monday's Board of Education meeting at 5 p.m. at the school administrative building, 215 E. Fort St.

The current director Lee Wilkerson will finish the remainder of his contract, which ends June 2019. He was offered a three-year contract in June 2016.

Chairman of the Board Travis Hillis said the system was looking to move in a new direction.

"We're wanting to take the district in a different direction," Hillis said. "We've had conversations with the director and mutually we've agreed we are going in different directions."

"We're going to take things to the next level and need some new leadership," he added, adding that he appreciates Wilkerson's contributions to the system.

This is an ongoing story that will be updated as more information becomes available.
