The Manchester Police Department (MPD) has two new members. K-9 officers Nalty and Storm recently joined the police force.

The four-legged officers met aldermen Oct. 1.

MPD Officer Daryn Gadeken presented Nalty, 2-year-old Belgian Malinois, to city officials. MPD Patrolman Derek Bowles introduced Storm.

“Chief Mark Yother wanted to introduce them to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen and show what we are doing and how we are training and getting ready to put them on patrol,” Gadeken said.

Storm and Nalty are the new members of the MPD K-9 team.

“We have one German Shepherd that’s going to be retiring at the end of the year, and then we have two Malinois that are new to the force,” Gadeken said.

The training takes several weeks. And once the initial preparation is completed, officers receive 40 hours of additional training every year.

“We are currently in training,” Bowles said. “We started training this week and it will be 11 weeks.”
