A body was found inside a camper that was completely destroyed by a fire Sunday evening, according to the Coffee County Sheriff's Department.

Eighty-four-year-old Lawrence Dickerson perished in the trailer, along with his small dog, according to officials. Dickerson's daughter, who also lived in the camper, was not home at the time.

At approximately 5:51 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 20) Hickerson Station Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the Barton Springs Campground area near Normandy Lake to find a camper trailer full engulfed in flames, according to Coffee County Sheriff Chad Partin. After the fire was extinguished, firefighters discovered a body while checking the structure for hot spots, Partin said.

He added that a cause of death has not been determined. According to Partin, the camper was a "20 to 25 foot pull camper with a slideout" and nothing was left of the structure.

"We have notified state bomb and arson to respond because of death involved. We will work through the night and into tomorrow," said Partin. He added that the body will eventually be transported to the state medical examiner's office.

The Manchester Times will post more information as it becomes available.
