Local authorities have confirmed a male was found dead in Elk River. It is possible drowning.

The man has been identified as Dustin Buckner, 35, Coffee County resident. Buckner was fishing with several people on the bank of the river.  

The Coffee County Rescue Squad, Emergency Medical Services, the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department, the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department and AEDC responded to the call for a drowning near Prairie Plains Road in Hillsboro this morning. The call came about 8:30 a.m. 

Once rescuers were on the scene, it took about 10 minutes to find the body. Then, investigators took over. The body has been sent for autopsy.  

Buckner was born in Tullahoma, on May 16, 1984. He owned and operated High and Tight Lawn Care and was a member of the Impact Church in Murfreesboro. 

Buckner, a veteran of the United States Air Force, will be laid to rest with full military honors. Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27 at Central Funeral Home chapel with Pastor Bill Adcock officiating with burial in the Bethel Cemetery in Pelham.  Visitation will be from 5–8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 at Central Funeral Home.
