The Coffee County Middle School played against the North Middle Gators on Tuesday, Sept. 8. The Red Raiders were coming off a win against North Middle’s sister school South Middle the week prior and the Raiders were looking to duplicate that success.
The Red Raiders quickly set the tone for the game as quarterback Cole Pippenger led his team down the field by carving up the Gator defense. The Raiders scored within the first two minutes of the game making for a long night for the Gators.
Offensively the Red Raiders were able to score as often as they wanted to, and defensively the team hampered any attempt that the Gators had at setting up any kind of offensive rhythm. Runs were stopped short of the line of scrimmage and any passes were hurried or off their mark as the quarterback and receivers were harassed on every down by the tenacious Raider defense. If the score within the first two minutes was the first wave on the shore then the pick six by Brennan Young was the hurricane making landfall. The Raiders would go on to score two more touchdowns in the first quarter putting the score at 28 to nothing.
The junior varsity was in for the majority of the rest of the game for the Red Raiders in a show of good sportsmanship. This slowed the scoring onslaught that the Red Raiders had been unleashing, but this didn’t do much to alleviate the offensive woes of the Gators as the team was only able to score once during the game.
The varsity returned to the field for the second half and quickly picked up where they left off scoring two more touchdowns on the way to a 42 to 7 victory over North Middle.
