Coffee County Middle School played host to a close volleyball matchup against Westwood on Sept. 3. The first set came down to the wire as the Lady Raiders and the Rockets refused to quit. The set started off slow as the Lady Raiders and the Rockets traded serves. Neither team could get the edge on the other until Westwood’s Keena Seivers facilitated four points for her team. The Lady Raiders quickly responded as Kamryn Hoback answered back with six points off of her serves putting the Lady Raiders up 13 to 12 over the Rockets. The set appeared to have opened up as Westwood’s Rylee Clark responded with six points of her own. The Rockets looked to have the set locked up as they had put themselves within striking distance of set point. The Lady Raiders Carrington Soner had other plans as she gave her team the opportunity to score five points tying the set at 25 all. The Rockets wouldn’t be denied in the set however as Liza Freeze helped ice the set for the rockets giving them the 27 to 25 win over the Lady Raiders.

Set one must have woken up the Lady Raiders because the team came out swinging in the second set. The Lady Raiders scored a blistering eight points facilitated by Tiffany Lamb. The Rockets were able to score four points courtesy of Lauren Shelton, but the Lady Raiders quickly resumed their assault as Danni Hillis put her team to 14. Hoback sealed the set for the Lady Raiders as she scored seven points giving the team a 25 to 8 win over the Rockets to force the tie breaker.

The tie breaker set was either teams’ game to win as the Lady Raiders jumped out to a quick lead courtesy of Lamb facilitating six points of her own. The Lady Raiders continued to hold onto this lead but slowed down a bit towards the middle of the set giving the Rockets a chance to come within striking distance of the lead, mostly of the serving prowess of Riley Earp who helped her team to four points. The match ultimately came down to a final volley where the Lady Raiders were able to close the final set out earning them a 15 to 11 victory.
