Hometown athlete receives scholastic honors at Freed Hartman

Local athlete Hayden Proffitt has been selected to the Academic All-Conference Team for the fourth straight year while he was attending Freed Hartman. Proffitt was on the golf team, a talent he cultivated during his childhood in Manchester. Proffitt graduates with an accounting major and a job already lined up for him at LBMC in Brentwood.

“It is a blessing to have been selected each year,” Proffitt said. “I am humbled to have received the honor four times. For upcoming high school athletes, I would say that to remember that they call you a student athlete, not an athletic student. You are a student and an ambassador for your school. So, sometimes you have to make sure that you have your schoolwork done first.”

Proffitt had his senior season cut short like many other athletes and had this to say for advice, “Soak up every moment, you never know when it will all be over. I had thought that golf would be over in May, I had never dreamed it would be over in March, but God has and will always have a plan for everything.

“My time at FHU was an awesome experience, I learned so much about not just how to be an athlete, or a student, but how to be a leader and how to have initiative to accomplish goals,” Proffitt said. “I majored in accounting and also got my MBA simultaneously in four years. I graduated with a 3.66 undergraduate GPA and a 3.4 MBA GPA. The drive and eagerness to learn I attained while at FHU helped me land a job at LBMC in Brentwood, Tennessee as an Audit Staff Accountant.

“My memories at FHU consist of many road trips, golf tournaments, and other golf related memories. As I close, I want to thank God for blessing me throughout these four years, and also I want to thank my parents, Ty and Sheila Proffitt for all the encouragement and advice throughout college and also my sister Elizabeth Proffitt. Overall, I was so very blessed to attend FHU, and I am glad to be here now with all the memories I made. Even though the last semester was cut short, I was in good shape returning to my hometown of Manchester, Tennessee.”
