The Central High School cheerleading team traveled to Cookeville last week for the Universal Cheerleaders Association summer camp at Tennessee Tech. CHS received both team and individual honors, including a third-place trophy for the camp championships.
"I'm so proud of these girls. We are pretty young," Coach Christy Clouse said. "Even though we had some injuries and setbacks, our new kids did a great job and our veterans stepped up and showed what great leaders they can be."
The camp went from Tuesday, June 18 through Friday, June 21 with a "Greatest Show on Earth" theme. CHS received superior ribbons for each nightly evaluation, including night three's themed pep rally.
In addition to the third-place finish in the championships, the team as a whole won the Traditions Award, given by staff to the squad that inspired leadership both in and out of competition.
Individual awards included UCA All-American nods for Paige Botts and Ryan Green. Brooke Gwinn and Emmalise Raymer were also selected for Pin it Forward Awards. The pin recipients were chosen by campers from other cheerleading squads at the camp and recognized hard work, spirit and sportsmanship.
