Trace Bryant

Trace Bryant was the top finisher for CHS at the decathlon/pentathlon qualifiers Tuesday and Wednesday.

It was a busy middle of the week for both the Central High School and Coffee County Middle track and field teams. On Tuesday, April 16, CMS hosted a meet Raider Academy, taking on East Tullahom, South Franklin and Harris. At the high school level, CHS took part in the Pentathlon/Decathlon qualifiers. 

CMS track takes first, second at home meet

CMS had strong showings in both boys' and girls' events at Tuesday's meet. The Lady Raiders won with a score of 52.5. The Red Raiders came in second place with 74 points, just behind South Franklin at 76.

In field events, the girls had wins from Holli Hancock in shot put with a throw of 31' 4", Nikki Graham in discus with a throw of 73' 6" and Katie Cotten in high jump with a height of 4' 6". 

Track highlights included Sophie McInturff taking first in the 1600-meter run with a time of 6:19 as well as the 800-meter run with a time of 2:55. The 4x100-meter relay team also came in first with a time of 5:02.

On the boys' side, the Raiders picked up field wins from Ashton Ferrell at shot put with a throw of 35' 8" and Travis Martin in high jump with a high of 5' 0". 

Cayden Miller won the 800-meter run with a time of 2:32. The 4x400-meter relay team also came in first, finishing at 4:43.

Bryant leads CHS at qualifiers

Taking part in the decathlon/pentathlon qualifiers, Trace Bryant finished third overall in the men's decathlon results, earning 5,315 points. 

Bryant's highlights included first place in discus with a throw of 30.50 meters, high jump with a height of 1.73 meters and shot put with a throw of 11.14 meters. Ethan Welch followed in 13th place, highlighted by third-place finishes in discus and shot put with throws of 29.33 meters and 10.55 meters, respectively.

On the girls' side, the Lady Raiders were led by Madison Rooker and Chloe Haggard in 13th and 14th place, respectively. Rooker earned 1,943 points, just ahead of Haggard's 1,922. 

Rooker's best finish was sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:41.77. Haggard's top result was eighth in the high jump with a height of 1.37 meters.
