Coffee County Middle School's basketball teams returned to Murfreesboro on Thursday, Nov. 7, for their second night at the Rockvale Tournament. Both the boys' and girls' teams were able to pick up wins.
In the boys' game, the Red Raiders bounced back from a Tuesday loss to Siegel Middle with a 42-25 win over Trousdale County's Jim Satterfield Middle. In the girls' game, the Lady Raiders remained perfect with a 34-24 victory over Rockvale.
The CMS boys opened their game with an early lead and expanded it to 12 points over the course of the first half. The Raiders continued to remain in control and earned the win.
Jackson Shemwell and Ethan Hargrove led the way with 13 points each. Cooper Reed brought in 7.
The Lady Raiders also jumped out to an early lead in their game and led 11-1 at the end of the first quarter. The team's strong play on both sides of the ball continued in the second quarter as CMS rolled to a 21-7 lead at halftime.
Rockvale came back in the third quarter with 10 points, while the Lady Raiders were held to two free throws. With the CMS lead tightened to 23-17 at the start of the fourth, the Lady Raiders got back on track with 11 more points to seal a 10-point win.
Channah Gannon led the way with 12 points on the evening. Addie Sartain and Samantha Kirby followed with six points each, just ahead of Taylor Anthony at five. Natalie Barnes added another four for the team. Olivia Vinson, Ava McIntosh and Bella Lawson all recorded two points.
