Coffee County Middle School's basketball teams did not take much time off after a pair of Monday night home wins over South Franklin. 

Both the Lady Raiders and Red Raiders were back on the court on Tuesday, Nov. 5, to open play in the Rockvale Tournament in Murfreesboro.

Up against Siegel Middle, the girls' team kept its undefeated record in check with 35-20 win. On the boys' side, CMS kept it close but fell to Siegel 25-20.

In the girls' game, the Lady Raiders held on to a tight 8-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. The CMS defense stepped up in the second quarter, holding Siegel to one field goal and two free throws. The Lady Raiders put up nine points in the same quarter to lead 17-11 at halftime.

The strong defensive play continued in the third quarter as CMS again held Siegel to one field goal, while the team put up 11 points themselves. The girls once again outshot Siegel in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.

The scoring tandem of Taylor Anthony and Olivia Vinson again led the way for the Lady Raiders, with 11 points for Anthony and 10 for Vinson. Channah Gannon followed with seven points. Ava McIntosh and Samantha Kirby each recorded three points. Sophie McInturff netted a single free throw in the fourth quarter for one point.

A close start to the boys' game saw the Raiders trail Siegel 4-3 after the first quarter. CMS was again held to three points in the second quarter to trail Siegel 11-6 at the half.

The Raiders stepped up after the break, with nine third-quarter points to tie the game at 15 ahead of the fourth quarter. Siegel went on to outscore CMS 10-5 over the game's remainder to defeat the Raiders.

Cooper Reed led the way for the boys with 12 points. Jackson Shemwell and Ethan Hargrove each added three points. Evan Kirby netted a single field goal in the third quarter for two points.
