Both of the local middle school volleyball teams got on the court for preseason scrimmage action on Saturday, August 3. Coffee County Middle School volleyball and Westwood Middle School volleyball competed in the Lady Raider Mayhem Tournament, hosted at Central High School's Joe Frank Patch Gymnasium.
The scrimmage tournament featured 12 schools and began in the morning with three pool matches before a single-elimination bracket began in the afternoon.
Westwood began the day in a three-set loss to Tullahoma. This was followed by another pair of losses to South Lincoln and Eagleville to close out pool play.
The Lady Rockets then competed in the silver bracket Saturday afternoon, where the team opened play against Harris. The 11-seed Lady Rockets held off Harris 25-22 and 25-23 for a straight-set win and a chance to play Tullahoma in the final.
Westwood was unable to break past the Lady Cats and fell in back-to-back sets 19-25 and 17-25.
CMS fell in its first pool match against Flintville, but rebounded in its next two matches against South Franklin and Cascade.
After their pool matches, the Lady Raiders opened play in the gold bracket as a five seed. The team fell in the first round to South Lincoln 18-25 and 22-25 for a straight-set loss.
