The 2019-20 local prep swim season kicked off on Friday, November 1, with a home meet at the Manchester Recreation Center. Teams from Central High School, Coffee County Middle School and Westwood Middle School all saw competition at the event.
It was a solid showing for the middle school teams, with both CMS and Westwood picking up wins in combined competition. Coffee Middle defeated Westwood 52-40 and followed with a 62-33 win over Grace Academy Middle. Westwood bounced back from its loss to CMS with its own 35-34 win over Grace Academy.
In the combined high school competition, CHS was defeated by Tullahoma 70-50 and then fell to Grace Academy High School 54-51.
Individually, the CMS boys' team defeated Westwood 22-7 and Grace Academy 21-19. The middle school Lady Raiders also added a 41-14 win over Grace Academy.
While the Rocket boys were swept in their loss to the Raiders and a 21-6 loss to Grace Academy, the Westwood girls' team had better luck. The Lady Rockets defeated CMS 33-30 and Grace Academy 29-13.
At the high school level, the injury-depleted CHS boys fell to Tullahoma 44-2 and Grace Academy 23-7. The high school Lady Raiders were able to pick up a pair of wins by defeating Tullahoma 48-26 and Grace Academy 44-31.
