Coffee County Middle School basketball was back on the hardcourt Monday night for a conference matchup at North Franklin Middle. Both boys and girls teams fell by double digits, first with the Lady Raiders at 49-26, followed by the Red Raiders 35-24 loss. 

Turnovers cost Lady Raiders in loss

CMS started slow Monday night. The girls committed nine turnovers in the first half, while the Gatorettes took an eight-point lead at halftime. 

The Lady Raiders continued to struggle in the third quarter, hitting four points as North Franklin continued to push ahead. CMS committed 22 turnovers over the course of the game.

Aleayia Barnes came off the bench to lead the Lady Raiders with nine points. Chloe Gannon followed with six. 

CMS boys falter down the stretch in loss

The Raiders started off their game Monday neck-and-neck with North Franklin. Following an 8-7 Gator lead at the end of the first quarter, CMS took a one-point lead down to the end of the first half. North Franklin was able to retake the lead at 15-13 off a buzzer-beating three-pointer right before halftime. 

The Raiders were unable to bounce back in the second half, with North increasing the deficit over the game's remainder to lead by double digits. 

Ethan Hargrove led the Raiders' effort with nine points. He was followed by Hayden Garr with six. Jackson Shemwell finished with four, with Dayne Crosslin right behind at three. Cooper Reed hit a single basket for two points.
