Coffee County Middle School's basketball teams hit the road Monday night for a conference matchup with South Franklin Middle School. The girls started strong and stayed in front for a 48-23 victory, while the boys' offense struggled to produce in a 53-28 loss.
CMS girls rout South Franklin
The Lady Raiders offense got kicking early on Monday night in Cowan, taking a 17-8 first quarter lead. In the second quarter, the Lady Trojans were held to two points as CMS went up 27-10. The Lady Raiders allowed only 13 more points for South Franklin in a blowout.
Olivia Vinson led the CMS offense with 13 points. Maggie Crouch followed with seven. Reel, Gannon and Graham each finished the night with six points.
Raiders fall to Trojans
The Raiders struggled to keep up with South Franklin from the first quarter onward Monday. CMS was limited to six points in the first half while the Trojans jumped out for 37 points. The boys were able to outscore South Franklin’s offense in the fourth quarter, but the deficit was too large to overcome.
Hargrove led the Raiders with nine points on the night. Crosslin and Jackson Shemwell followed with six each. Holder, Hayden Garr and Cooper Reed finished with two points each. Jack Anderson hit a single free throw for one point.
