Anna Johnson

Anna Johnson looks for opening Monday night against Forrest. Johnson led the Lady Rockets with 18 points.

The Lady Rockets were back on their home court Monday night to take on Forrest Middle.  A close game throughout, Westwood fought back to tie the game at the end of regulation and escape with a 32-27 win in overtime.

“I can’t think straight, I was so proud of my girls,” Coach Angela Houck said. “How they held their composure at the end, it was awesome.”

Both teams got off to slow starts offensively with Forrest holding onto a narrow 9-8 lead at halftime. A six-point run by Anna Johnson in the third helped to push Westwood to a 17-15 lead heading into the final quarter.

Westwood’s saving grace was the clutch free throw shooting of Maddie Sullivan. At the very end of regulation, Sullivan was fouled with Westwood down 24-22. With the pressure on to force overtime, Sullivan netted both shots and the game would head into extra time.

“What was going through my mind was that if I don’t make this I’m going to cry,” Sullivan said. “It was amazing.”

In overtime, Johnson put up another six and Allie Sullivan brought in two to give the Lady Rockets back-to-back wins.

Johnson was an offensive force for Westwood with 18 points. Allie Sullivan followed with five. Maddie Sullivan and Leonor Moreno finished the night with four points. Bryleigh Gray hit a single free throw for one point.
