Coffee County Middle School cross country runner Greenlee Woods traveled to Clarksville Saturday, Oct. 6, to run in the TMSAA state cross country meet. Coffee County’s only runner, the seventh grader finished the two-mile race in 14:13.8 to finish in 12th place.
“She had a great race and left it out there on the course,” Coach Nathan Wanuch said. “We are extremely proud of how Greenlee performed this year.”
Woods gave herself a good opportunity to finish in the top eight. The Lady Raider completed her first mile in 7:13 and went into the back stretch in the front group. In the hillier second mile, Woods clocked in at 7:00, seven seconds shy of a top 10 finish and 14 seconds from a place on the medal stand.
John Sevier Middle School’s Autumn Headrick came in first place with a 13:10.9 finish.
The states appearance caps off a successful season for Woods; she earned first place in four of her six races.
