The Westwood Middle School Lady Rockets put a stamp on their undefeated regular season by holding Boyd Christian to a goose egg, shutting out the Lady Broncos 44-0 at Joel Vinson Gym this past week. Meanwhile, the boys’ team stayed atop the district standings with a 37-12 win over the Broncos, finishing with just one blemish on their record during the regular season, that coming in a close game against Centertown early in the campaign.
The dismantling of the Lady Broncos came despite the fact the Lady Rocket starters didn’t even play an entire period. Despite that, Westwood’s leading starter on the season, Princess Penaloza still put up six to lead her team. The starters were jerked after the Lady Rockets went up 22-0 after one, allowing them to empty their bench for the duration of the game. Audri Patton, Allie Sullivan, Keena Seivers, Kailee Rossman and Maggie Brei each had four points for Westwood as 14 members of the regular season champs inked the scorer’s book.
The boys’ game looked to be just as big of a boat racing of the Broncos as the Rockets went up 27-2 by the half despite being short-handed due to illness which left several members of the squad sidelined for the contest.
Like the girls’ game, the bench figured prominently in the tilt as the sixth grade team was put out on the hardwood to finish the game. Jayden Carter led his squad with 14 before he was brought to the bench. Caiden Warren added nine to the mix as the team gets ready for the district tournament in McMinnville this week.
