The Westwood girls' basketball team welcomed Liberty to Manchester Thursday night. Westwood's search for their first home win ended after an explosive second half helped the Lady Rockets soar to a 47-19 victory.
"It was a very slow first half. We were not pushing the ball down the court like we should, not rebounding like we should," Coach Angela Houck said. "We talked to them at halftime. I wanted more out of them."
Westwood went up 11-4 after the first quarter, but the Lady Patriots climbed back to tie it at the half at 14 apiece. Westwood found just three points in the second quarter off a field goal from Allie Sullivan and a free throw from Anna Johnson. Johnson's free throw was the only one made out of nine attempts in the quarter.
"We're a better team and we weren't showing it. Liberty was a better team in the first half," Houck said. "We were capable of so much more."
The Lady Rockets coaching staff got what they wanted after halftime. Westwood put up 13 points in the third while limiting Liberty to five. The girls followed this up in the final quarter with 20 unanswered points to secure a win.
Bryleigh Gray and Leonor Moreno led the way for Westwood with 10 points each. Anna Johnson followed with nine. Allie Sullivan netted eight points. Joely Sain and Maddie Sullivan rounded out the Lady Rockets' night with four and two respectively.
