CHS golf takes first, second at Sewanee

Central High School golf was back on the road on Thursday, August 8, for a nine-hole matchup at Sewanee with Grundy County and Chattanooga School of Arts and Sciences.

The Raiders came out on top for their first win of the year with a score of 178, followed by 193 for CSAS and 213 for Grundy. The Lady Raiders took second in their group with a 111, just behind CSAS's 106 and ahead of Grundy's 121.

In the boys' competition, Logan Hale led the way with a one over par score of 37. Chase Hancock followed with a 42. 

Maggie Crouch led the Lady Raiders with a 52. Cadie Prater shot a 59 for the day.

Rockets win season opener at Cannon County

Westwood Middle School football traveled to Woodbury Thursday evening to kick off the 2019 season against Cannon County. The Rockets went up early and didn't let up in a 22-6 victory.

Jayden Carter got Westwood on the board on the opening drive, then capped it off with a two-point conversion to put the Rockets up 8-0. After Cannon gave up a fumble, Brayden Dixon ran into the end zone on the ensuing drive to push Westwood further ahead. 

Carter added another long touchdown run in the second quarter to continue the Rockets' climb, but Cannon responded with a touchdown before halftime to make it a 22-6 game. 

Neither team put any more points on the board in the second half, securing a win for Westwood.

The Rocket offense had a productive evening, with just over 300 yards total. Carter accounted for 223 yards with two touchdowns.

Westwood volleyball falls to Tullahoma

Westwood Middle School volleyball kicked off its sophomore season at home Thursday evening with a match against Tullahoma. The Lady Rockets were unable to pick up a win in a straight-set loss to the Lady Cats.

Westwood dropped the first set 18-25. In the second set, the Lady Rockets lost 20-25 to end the match.
