Lady Raiders overcome Tullahoma on penalty kicks

Central High School soccer traveled down to Tullahoma on Thursday, September 19, to take on the rival Lady Cats in the annual Coffee Cup game. Tied at 1-1 at the end of regulation, the Lady Raiders outscored Tullahoma 4-2 on penalty kicks to seal a 2-1 win. 

The Lady Raiders found themselves in a 1-0 hole 19 minutes into the game. Eight minutes later, Maddy Jones tied it off a through pass on a Jayda Wright free kick. 

Still tied at 1-1 after halftime, neither team found a goal before the end of regulation. The game then moved to penalty kicks to decide the winner of the rivalry trophy. 

PK goals from Wright, Reyna Flores, Jenna Garretson and Katie Cotten took care of things on offense while keeper Madison Rooker blocked two Lady Cat shots to seal the win. 

CHS golf falls at Tullahoma match

Central High School golf also went to Tullahoma on Thursday for a nine-hole three-way match against Tullahoma and Shelbyville. 

Both boys' and girls' teams took third place on the day. The Red Raiders finished with a team score of 199, behind Tullahoma's 184 and Shelbyville's 154. The Lady Raiders ended with a 133, with Shelbyville in second on an 89 and Tullahoma in first with an 81. 

The CHS boys were led by Logan Hale with a score of 42. He was followed by Chase Hancock at 46. Next came David O'Connor with a 51. Avery Hill hit a 60, with Caleb Jarrell rounding it out at 76. 

The girls were led by Maggie Crouch with a 63. Caddie Prater finished seven strokes behind for a 70.
