Jayden Carter runs the ball Thursday evening against Eagleville. Carter carried a large bulk of the Rocket offense throughout the game.

Westwood Middle School football returned to Dyer-Bouldin Field on Thursday, August 15, to take on Eagleville. The Rockets were unable to repeat the success of last week's win over Cannon County and fell to the Eagles 28-8.

Eagleville jumped out to an early lead near the close of the first quarter. With 1:01 on the scoreboard, the Eagles got to the end zone and secured a two-point conversion to take an 8-0 lead over the Rockets.

Westwood's luck did not turn around in the second quarter. After the Rockets turned the ball over on downs, the Eagles broke out for a 47-yard touchdown run. An unsuccessful two-point conversion made it a 14-0 lead with 3:53 left in the first half.

The Rocket offense put together a longer drive in the final seconds before halftime, but ended in an Eagleville interception.

After Eagleville added a third touchdown in the third quarter, Westwood got its chance to respond in the fourth.

Down by 20 late in the game, Izick Sierra fought through for a first down on the Rocket 46-yard line. On the next play, Brayden Dixon took off for a 54-yard touchdown run to put Westwood on the board. Dixon added a successful two-point conversion to make it a 20-8 game with 2:59 left in regulation.

Eagleville responded with one more touchdown with under a minute to play for the game's final score.
