Water Dept. to conduct system flushing

Staff Report
The Manchester Water Department will be conducting its annual state-mandated water distribution system flushing starting Sunday, July 19.
Starting at 11 p.m., the flushing is expected to be completed by Monday, July 20 at 6 a.m.
Water Department personnel will be flushing fire hydrants at designated locations throughout the water distribution system.
“This important maintenance activity helps maintain water quality, improve system reliability, and ensure the continued delivery of safe drinking water to our customers,” read a notice from the City.
During the flushing period, customers may experience temporary low water pressure and discolored (yellow, brown or cloudy appearance) water that should return to normal once the flushing is complete.
To minimize inconvenience, the Water Department encourages customers flush cold-water faucets for several minutes if discoloration occurs until the water runs clear, avoid washing clothes during the flushing period or until water runs clear and limit the use of hot water during the flushing period to avoid discolored water getting in hot water heaters.
“We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we perform this important annual maintenance to help ensure the reliability and quality of Manchester’s water system.”
