After back-to-back home games the previous two weeks, Coffee County football was back on the road for a Class 6A Region 6 battle against Brentwood Friday night.
Taking on a Bruin squad that came into the game having won four in a row, the Red Raiders were held scoreless on the way to a 55-0 loss.
The result was Coffee County’s fourth straight in the loss column and put the team at 2-5 on the season. The loss also put the Red Raiders at an 0-3 mark within the region, with earlier losses to Franklin and Independence preceding it.
After Brentwood took a 7-0 lead with 6:50 remaining in the first quarter, Coffee County starting quarterback Kaysen Lowery was sidelined with an injury early in the ensuing Red Raider drive. The possession ended shortly after when the Bruins recovered a fumble to take over on the Coffee County 14-yard line. Brentwood went on to take it the rest of the way for another touchdown, putting the Red Raiders down by 14 with 3:32 left in the quarter.
The Bruins went on to open the second quarter with a successful field goal from around 49 yards out and continued to push ahead from there as the game moved forward. After an interception by Coffee County backup quarterback Caleb Hill put Brentwood back in Red Raider territory, the Bruins took it to the end zone once again not long after to make it a 24-0 game.
Coffee County fell further behind as the second quarter continued, with Brentwood adding another 21 points in this span to take a 45-0 lead into halftime.

Opening the second half with a running clock, Brentwood closed out the third quarter with a short field goal as the clock struck zero to go up by 48.
After Coffee County’s following drive came up empty, the Bruins started off their possession around the Red Raider 37-yard line following a long punt return. Brentwood went on to reach the end zone with 2:27 left to play, bringing the game to what would be its final score.
Coffee County returns from its bye week with a trio of home region games to close out its regular-season schedule, starting with a showdown against Summit on Oct. 16. The Spartans currently sit at 2-5 overall and 1-2 within the region, with their only wins thus far coming against Spring Hill on August 21 and Shelbyville Central in a region battle on September 25.
Kickoff of next Friday’s game is set for 7 p.m.
