CHS boys’ soccer blanks Franklin County

Coffee County boys’ soccer picked up its first win of the season in a road district match against Franklin County Thursday night.

Coffee County (11) hosts Cane Ridge for its home opener at 8 p.m. Thursday night.

Middle School Baseball Westwood 6, White County 3 The Rockets took care of business on the road in Sparta Thursday, putting up four runs in the top of the second inning on the way to the victory.

CJ Chavis Jr. led the way at the plate, connecting on two of the team’s six hits. Griffyn Woods, Logan McKenzie, Will Levengood and Max Stewart each had one hit.

Chavis Jr. also came away with two of Westwood’s three RBI. Woods had one RBI.

Luke Christian was the Rockets’ starting pitcher, coming off with four strikeouts, two hits, two runs and two walks over the first three innings. Stewart followed for the next three innings, adding two strikeouts, three hits, two runs and five walks in this span. Levengood closed it out with one strikeout, one hit and one walk in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The win put Westwood at 7-2 on the season.


Harris 7, Coffee County 0

The Red Raiders were held scoreless on the way to their first loss of the season on the road at Harris Thursday.

Bentley Ater, Aiden McNeese and Tyce DePalma all had one hit each for a team total of three.

Braxton Swack got it started on the mound, finishing with seven strikeouts, three hits, six runs and two walks when he came off in the bottom of the fifth inning. Ater took his place, striking out two more and allowing another run and another walk through the game’s remainder.

The loss put Coffee County at 4-1 on the season.

Middle School Softball Coffee County 17, Harris 2 The Lady Raiders got the job done in four innings to secure a dominant road victory Thursday.

The team finished the game with 14 hits, with two each for Britlyn Jones, Addie Haley, Izzie Haynes, Amaya Campbell and Siri Cruz. This included a home run for Campbell in the top of the second inning.

Haynes was Coffee County’s RBI leader, posting five of the team’s 14. Jones and Campbell followed with three RBI each. Campbell pitched all four innings, finishing the game with three strikeouts, three hits, two runs and one walk.

The win put Coffee County at 7-2 overall.

Community 16, Westwood 1

The Lady Rockets fell behind early on the way to a fourinning road loss Wednesday.

Elly Wild, Harper Hiles and Izzy Sartain each had one hit for three total. Sartain also had Westwood’s lone RBI in the top of the fourth inning.

Skyleigh Cooper got things going in the circle, allowing five hits and seven runs until coming out in the bottom of the second inning. McKenna Kehely took her place, striking out two and adding another four hits, nine runs and two walks through the game’s remainder.

Westwood (1-4) returns to action March 30 with a home game against Cannon County. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
