The Coffee County girls’ soccer team was back on its home turf at Raider Academy for a game against Central Magnet Tuesday evening.

The Lady Raiders gave up a goal early on and fell further behind late on the way to a 4-1 loss. This was the team’s third loss of the season following last week’s defeats at the hands of Giles County and Tullahoma.

Scoreless through the first 10 minutes, Central Magnet got on the board with 29:36 left in the first half. Central Magnet had several more shot opportunities throughout the remainder of the half, but the Lady Tigers were unable to get any more of these past keeper Kayda Ferrell before the break.

Coffee County continued to hold Central Magnet to a single goal through much of the second half, but the Lady Tigers were able to make it a 2-0 game with 22:31 left to play.

Coffee County fell further behind on a penalty kick goal with 10:21 remaining, before another shot into the back of the net 17 seconds later put Central Magnet up 4-0.

Lilly Matherne ensured the Lady Raiders avoided a shutout with a goal at the 8:51 mark, but they were unable to cut it any closer in the time remaining.

Coffee County will travel to Gatlinburg to take part in the Smoky Mountain Cup this weekend. The event is scheduled for Friday through Sunday.

CHS draws with Lincoln

Coffee County opened its week with a road matchup against Class 3A District 9 foe Lincoln County Monday evening, returning home with a 3-3 draw.

Tied at 1-1 after the first half, both teams scored two more goals in the second half to leave the draw intact in Fayetteville.
