City seeks flood control grant for Skinner Flat

The Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved during the May 5 meeting a resolution authorizing the application of a $2.7 million grant to cover flood control on Skinner Flat Road.

If approved, the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency Hazard Mitigation Grant Program would go toward improving infrastructure on Skinner Flat to help restore the floodplain for better flood control and prevent future disasters.

The area has historically been cut off during heavy rains due to floodwater rising over the roadways.

The city’s portion of the grant is estimated at $350,000.
