Primary election settles several election bids, others carry over to August race

Chad Partin was reelected for another term as Coffee County Sheriff, staving off challenges from Danny Ferrell and Kelly Smith in the Republican Primary. Meanwhile, Kelsie Adams was able to unseat Jenny Anthony for the Circuit Court Clerk’s office, while incumbent County Mayor Dennis Hunt beat Republican challenger Cheryl Swan but will still face opposition from Democrat Khamai M. Rozier and Independent Mark Messick in August.
In the race for County Clerk, which will replace the retiring Teresa McFadden, Donna Spaulding defeated Jenna Amacher in the GOP primary, but she will still have to face Independent Chasity Dawn Harris in the August election to determine who wins office. Spaulding garnered 3,541 votes while Amacher netted 2,435 votes.
In the race for Register of Deeds, Donna Toney fended off challenger Kara Wimberley in the Republican Primary but will face opposition from Democrat Debbie Williams in August.
In the sheriff’s race, Partin was returned for a third term as there are no challengers waiting in the August General Election. Partin won in a landslide with 3,473 votes in the GOP primary. Danny Ferrell was second with 1,678 votes, while Kelly Smith had 1,321 votes.
Kelsie Adams ascended to the circuit court clerk’s office with 3,493 votes to 2,798 for incumbent Jenny Anthony. Like Partin, there are no challengers waiting in the wings in August, so barring a write-in candidate, she will win office.
Incumbent Dennis Hunt defeated Cheryl Swann 3,692 to 2,738 to gain the Republican nomination going into the August election.
